Stock Market Highlights, Thursday, October 10, 2024
The benchmark equity indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, ended Thursday’s session in the positive territory. The BSE Sensex gained 140.75 points, or 0.17%, to close at 81,607.55. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty50 settled in green at 24,998.45, rising 16.50 points, or 0.07%, from its previous close.
Out of the 50 constituent stocks of the Nifty50, 27 ended in red, led by Cipla, Tech Mahindra, Trent, Sun Pharma, and Infosys, with losses extending up to 3.37%. On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank, JSW Steel, HDFC Bank, Bharat Electronics, and IndusInd Bank were among the 23 stocks that finished higher, posting gains of up to 3.84%.
In the BSE space, 17 out of 30 Sensex stocks ended in the green, with Kotak Mahindra Bank, JSW Steel, and HDFC Bank being the top performers, gaining up to 3.90%. Conversely, Tech Mahindra and Sun Pharma were the biggest losers, with a drop of up to 2.82%.
Among the broader indices, the Nifty Smallcap 100 ended the day up 0.19%, while the Nifty Midcap 100 slipped by 0.28%.
Sectorally, Bank Nifty and PSU Bank indices outperformed, both closing over 1% higher. Financial Services, Auto, and Metal stocks also ended in positive territory. However, IT, Pharma, FMCG, and Healthcare sectors were the top laggards, with losses of up to 2.01%.
