Benchmark equity indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, ended the last trading session of the week in negative territory. The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 720.60 points (0.90%) to close at 79,223.11. During the session, it fluctuated within a range of 80,072.99 to 79,147.32.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 settled in the red, losing 183.90 points (0.76%) to finish at 24,004.75. It reached a high of 24,196.45 and a low of 23,978.15 during the day.

Among the Nifty50 constituents, 32 stocks ended lower, led by losses in Wipro, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, Adani Ports, and Cipla, which declined by up to 2.83%. Conversely, ONGC, Tata Motors, Titan, Nestle India, and SBI Life were among the 18 stocks that posted gains, with ONGC leading the pack with a rise of 5.11%.

Broader markets echoed the benchmarks, as the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices closed down by 0.30% and 0.24%, respectively.

Sectoral performance was mixed. The Bank Nifty index fell 616 points to close at 50,988.80, dragged by declines in HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, which dropped 2.53% and 1.94%, respectively. On the other hand, indices such as Nifty FMCG, Media, Metal, PSU Bank, and OMC ended higher, gaining up to 1.26%. However, Nifty Financial Services, IT, Private Bank, and Healthcare indices were among the worst performers, recording losses of up to 1.41%.
