The government’s announcement on domestic manufacturing of rare-earth permanent magnets is a landmark development for India’s EV and auto component ecosystem. Rare-earth magnets are a critical requirement for high-efficiency traction motors, power electronics, and several key sub-assemblies used in electrified vehicles. With India currently dependent on imports for the majority of these materials, this move will significantly enhance supply-chain resilience, reduce cost volatility, and improve long-term production planning for EV manufacturers.
