India and Canada Forge Strong Agri-Food Partnership as NIFTEM-K Signs MoU with University of Saskatchewan

Delhi, Mar 03: National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management-Kundli (NIFTEMK), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India, has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Saskatchewan (USask), Saskatoon, to strengthen Indo-Canadian collaboration in Food Science and Technology.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Harinder Singh Oberoi, Director, NIFTEMK, and Dr. Baljit Singh, Vice President (Research), USask, in the presence of Scott Moe, Sh. Avinash Joshi, Secretary, MoFPI, and Sh. D. Praveen, Joint Secretary, MoFPI. The partnership gains added significance following the announcement of a jointly supported Centre of Excellence in Pulse Protein by the Prime Ministers of India and Canada, to be led by NIFTEMK and USask.

The agreement covers online teaching and training programmes, joint research projects, collaborative funding proposals, faculty and student exchanges, integrated degree programmes in Food Processing Technology, and industry-oriented short courses. It also includes seminars, workshops, and structured academic exchanges aimed at advancing innovation, sustainable food systems, food security, and value-chain development.

Both institutions emphasized that the collaboration will enhance research-driven industrial growth and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agrifood sector, further expanding NIFTEMK’s global engagement in food technology and entrepreneurship.
