Kolkata: The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday published the list of voters deleted from the draft electoral rolls in West Bengal as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise for 2026. The move is aimed at enhancing transparency and allowing citizens to verify and contest deletions ahead of the finalisation of the rolls.
According to the EC, the deleted names include voters who were found to be deceased, permanently shifted from their registered constituencies, or listed more than once during the verification process. The Commission said the publication of the deletion list is a standard procedure under SIR to ensure accuracy and integrity of the electoral database.
The lists have been made available at the offices of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant EROs, and designated polling stations, besides being accessible through official election-related platforms. Affected voters or their family members can file claims or objections within the stipulated period if they believe the deletion is incorrect.
The EC has directed election officials across the state to conduct outreach activities to inform citizens about the revision process and grievance redressal mechanisms. Political parties have also been advised to verify the lists and flag any discrepancies.
The Special Intensive Revision exercise is being carried out to update voter records well ahead of future elections, with the Commission reiterating that no eligible voter should be left out of the electoral rolls.
