Hyderabad, Dec 8: Atirath Holdings India Ltd. has signed a major investment memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Telangana for the development of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) projects in the state, with a total proposed investment of ₹4,000 crore. The agreement was formalised in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during the Global Telangana Rising Summit 2025.
The MoU was signed by Atirath Holdings Chairman Lt. R. Balakrishnan and the Special Chief Secretary to the Government for Industries & Commerce, IT, Electronics and Communications. Addressing the media after the signing, Balakrishnan described the partnership as a significant step towards building a sustainable and clean energy ecosystem in Telangana.
Under the agreement, Atirath Holdings will set up 25 CBG plants across different regions of the state, each with a processing capacity of 20 tonnes per day. The project is expected to generate more than 9,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, creating livelihoods for youth and farmers.
Balakrishnan said the foundation stone for the first CBG plant will be laid in January 2026 in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, with subsequent units to follow in phases. The entire project is targeted to be fully operational within the next 15 months.
Highlighting the importance of bio-CNG, he explained that CBG is a clean and renewable fuel derived from organic waste through anaerobic digestion and purification. With methane content exceeding 98 per cent, its properties are similar to conventional CNG, making it suitable for automotive, industrial and commercial use.
He further noted that with the global push towards carbon neutrality and Telangana’s proactive renewable energy policy, the company—supported by NRI investors and experienced technocrats—has committed to this large-scale investment. The project will also focus on converting Napier grass into eco-friendly fuel, reinforcing Telangana’s growing position as a key hub for green energy and sustainable development.
