Bengaluru, Feb 11: On the occasion of World Cancer Day, M5 E-City Mall, Electronic City, in association with Kauvery Hospital, Electronic City, organised a comprehensive public awareness initiative aimed at educating the community on cancer prevention, early detection, and holistic cancer care. The initiative brought expert medical insights directly to the public through health screenings, expert-led discussions, and creative awareness activities.

As part of the initiative, cancer screenings and health check-ups were conducted on February 4 and February 7 by oncologists from Kauvery Hospital. On February 4, a total of 90 individuals underwent cancer screenings, including 26 cervical cancer screenings conducted by Dr. Suguna, reinforcing the importance of preventive healthcare and early diagnosis.

On February 7, the awareness drive featured an expert panel discussion and creative engagement sessions designed to promote public understanding of cancer risks and prevention strategies. The expert panel discussion brought together leading specialists from Kauvery Hospital. Dr. Kakoli, Senior Consultant – Medical Oncology, spoke about comprehensive cancer care approaches, the role of early detection in improving survival outcomes, common risk factors, and the importance of timely medical intervention. Dr. Rakesh Sringeri, Head of Department – Medical Gastroenterology, addressed key aspects of stomach and colorectal cancers, highlighting early warning signs, lifestyle and dietary risks, and screening and prevention strategies.

Dr. Kakoli, Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology, Kauvery Hospital said, “Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, yet many cancers are highly treatable when detected early. The stigma surrounding cancer often leads to denial and delayed screening, driven by the misconception that testing is necessary only when there is a family history. In reality, cancers can also develop due to lifestyle factors and exposure to carcinogens, even in individuals with healthy DNA. Early screening significantly reduces cancer-related mortality by enabling timely intervention and reducing the intensity and duration of treatment. This World Cancer Day theme, ‘United by Unique’, highlights our shared commitment to awareness, prevention, and early diagnosis.”

Complementing the medical discussions, nursing college students presented an exclusive mime show illustrating the dangers of harmful habits such as tobacco use, the risks of ignoring early symptoms, the silent progression of cancer, and the life-saving impact of prevention and early diagnosis. The sessions witnessed participation from over 50 attendees. The Kauvery Hospital team further energised the event with an awareness dance performance using placards to convey important cancer prevention messages.

Speaking about the initiative, Mahendra Nagaraj, M5 Mahendra Group, said, “At M5 E-City Mall, we believe in creating spaces that go beyond retail and entertainment to foster meaningful community engagement. Partnering with Kauvery Hospital for this World Cancer Day initiative reflects our commitment to supporting public health awareness. By bringing expert medical guidance and preventive screening directly to the community, we hope to encourage people to prioritise early detection and adopt healthier lifestyles.”

This initiative reflects the shared commitment of M5 E-City Mall and Kauvery Hospital to promote preventive healthcare and empower communities with knowledge that can help reduce the burden of cancer.
