India has reclaimed its place at the forefront of the global organic food industry, being honored as the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s largest and most influential trade fair for organic products, held from 10th to 13th February in Nuremberg, Germany. This prestigious recognition marks India’s return to the global spotlight after 14 years, highlighting its vast agricultural heritage, innovation in organic farming, and growing influence in international organic markets.

A Vibrant Showcase of India’s Organic Diversity

Organized by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India’s participation at BIOFACH 2026 is larger and more ambitious than ever. The India Country Pavilion spans 1,074 square meters and features 67 co-exhibitors, including exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, state government bodies, commodity boards, and organic laboratories.

Visitors to the pavilion will experience the breadth of India’s organic offerings, ranging from rice, spices, oilseeds, pulses, and herbs to value-added products like cashew, mango puree, essential oils, and turmeric. This diverse showcase reflects India’s commitment to providing high-quality, sustainably produced organic foods that meet international standards.

Over 20 Indian states and union territories are represented at the event, demonstrating the country’s rich agricultural and regional diversity. From the aromatic spices of Kerala and Assam to the heritage rice varieties of West Bengal and Manipur, BIOFACH 2026 provides a platform to present the unique flavors and traditional practices that define India’s organic agriculture.

Celebrating India’s Heritage Rice and Culinary Excellence

India’s pavilion also brings a sensory experience to the fair. Visitors can taste five GI-tagged heritage rice varieties—Indrayani, Navara, Gobindbhog, Red Rice, and Chak Hao (Black Rice)—prepared with premium organic spices to showcase India’s culinary heritage. Live cooking demonstrations, including aromatic biryani made from organic basmati rice, allow attendees to appreciate the textures, flavors, and aromas that distinguish Indian organic produce in the global market.

Strengthening India’s Position in Global Organic Trade

India’s designation as Country of the Year reflects the nation’s expanding footprint in the international organic market. In recent years, the demand for sustainably produced, environmentally responsible food products has surged, and Indian exporters are stepping up to meet global expectations. APEDA’s initiatives focus on enhancing the global competitiveness of Indian organic products, supporting exporters with certification, branding, and market access programs.

This recognition also reinforces India’s long-term commitment to sustainability, fair trade, and innovation in organic farming. By participating prominently at BIOFACH 2026, India is sending a clear message: the country is not only a leading supplier of organic products but also a pioneer in ethical, environmentally responsible agriculture.

A Global Stage for India’s Organic Ambitions

BIOFACH, held annually in Nuremberg, is the world’s most influential organic trade exhibition, bringing together buyers, producers, and innovators from across the globe. India’s strong presence at the fair underscores the country’s leadership in organic agriculture, the quality of its products, and its dedication to sustainable practices.

From its aromatic spices and herbs to high-quality rice and innovative value-added products, India is proving that it is ready to lead the global organic movement. This recognition at BIOFACH 2026 is a celebration of India’s past achievements, current capabilities, and future potential in shaping the organic industry worldwide.

Looking Ahead

With sustainability and environmental responsibility increasingly shaping consumer choices, India’s spotlight at BIOFACH 2026 positions it as a global leader in organic agriculture. The event has provided a platform to showcase India’s agricultural diversity, entrepreneurial spirit, and culinary excellence to the world.

As demand for high-quality, certified organic products continues to grow globally, India’s participation as Country of the Year reinforces its mission to be the organic food basket of the world, combining heritage, quality, and innovation in every product it offers.
