July 11, 2024 — The Cricket Advisory Committee, featuring Mr Ashok Malhotra, Mr Jatin Paranjpe, and Ms Sulakshana Naik, has unanimously recommended Mr Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach of Team India. The former Indian batsman will assume his role starting with the upcoming away series against Sri Lanka, which includes 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is beginning on July 27, 2024.

The BCCI opened applications for this position on May 13 to find a successor for Mr Rahul Dravid, whose tenure concluded after the ICC T20 World Cup, in 2024. The Board extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr Dravid for his exceptional service as Head Coach. His tenure was highlighted by significant achievements, including winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, in 2024, and finishing as runners-up in both the ICC 50-over World Cup, in 2023, and the ICC World Test Championship, in 2023.

Mr Dravid was also lauded for his dedication to nurturing young talent and instilling discipline and sportsmanship within the team. The Board congratulates Mr Paras Mhambrey (Bowling Coach), Mr T. Dilip (Fielding Coach), and Mr Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach) for their successful tenures and wishes them well in their future endeavours.

The BCCI welcomes Gautam Gambhir in his new role. The former Indian opener, renowned for his exceptional batting skills and strategic insight, has been a key figure in Indian cricket. His notable contributions include crucial performances in the 2007 ICC World T20 and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Gambhir also led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two IPL title victories in 2012 and 2014, and as a mentor in 2024, helped secure a third IPL title for KKR.

As Head Coach, Gambhir will oversee the development and performance of the Indian cricket team. He will focus on fostering a culture of excellence, discipline, and teamwork while nurturing young talent and preparing the team for future global challenges.
