India and Russia on Monday held high-level interagency consultations in New Delhi to review and advance their comprehensive maritime cooperation. The meeting was co-chaired by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and H.E. Nikolai Patrushev, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Maritime Board of Russia.
Senior officials and experts from both nations participated in the discussions, which covered the full spectrum of maritime collaboration. The talks reaffirmed the enduring Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership shared by the two countries—one built on mutual trust, respect, and a long-term vision for economic and strategic cooperation.
During the meeting, both sides acknowledged the leadership and strategic direction provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin, which continues to guide the expanding bilateral partnership. Delegations explored avenues for enhanced collaboration across key sectors, including shipbuilding, port modernisation, maritime logistics, trade and economic cooperation, and scientific and technical exchange.
The consultations also touched on cooperation in Arctic operations, maritime research, and capacity-building initiatives, signalling a shared ambition to engage in cutting-edge maritime developments.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the productive and forward-looking discussions. They reaffirmed their commitment to building a more resilient, efficient and sustainable maritime partnership, aimed at strengthening not only bilateral ties but also contributing to broader regional and global connectivity.
The meeting concluded with a joint resolve to deepen maritime cooperation in support of long-term economic growth and strategic stability for both nations.
