The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC), under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, organized a high-level Summit on Recycling, Plastic Waste Management and Circular Economy in Dehradun, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, sustainability experts, and environmental innovators to accelerate India’s transition toward a resource-efficient future.
The summit focused on addressing India’s rapidly increasing plastic consumption, advancing sustainable alternatives, and strengthening the country’s recycling ecosystem. Key discussions revolved around innovative waste management technologies, regulatory frameworks, extended producer responsibility (EPR), bioplastics, and the role of industry in promoting circularity.
Senior officials from the Department emphasized that effective waste recycling and circular economy practices are central to achieving national environmental goals and reducing the ecological footprint of the petrochemical sector. They highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize recycling infrastructure, improve segregation at source, and promote a shift from a linear to a circular consumption model.
Industry stakeholders showcased technologies for advanced plastic recycling, chemical recycling, waste-to-energy solutions, and sustainable packaging innovations. Experts also discussed global best practices and the need for stronger collaborations between government bodies, research institutions, startups, and local authorities.
The summit underscored the importance of aligning national policies with global sustainability commitments and empowering industries to adopt greener practices. Participants also stressed the need to create consumer awareness and strengthen implementation mechanisms at the municipal and state levels.
The event concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to work collectively toward a cleaner environment and a robust circular economy that supports both economic growth and ecological well-being.
