Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, declared on Monday that he will be leaving the national team after this T20 World Cup. Because of the national team’s hectic schedule, he also alluded to his doubts about re-applying for the job.
Dravid assumed the role of India head coach in November 2021. His original contract concluded after the 2023 ODI World Cup but was prolonged until June 2024 following the team’s impressive performance, only faltering in the final against Australia.
In April, the BCCI opened applications for the head coach position post the T20 World Cup. At that time, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah mentioned that Dravid could re-apply, but Dravid himself expressed doubts about doing so on Monday.
Gautam Gambhir, the ex-India opener, who recently guided KKR to their third IPL title as a mentor, is being considered a leading candidate for Dravid’s replacement. Gambhir has also voiced his desire for the position.
