Monterey, Calif., Jan 21 — Modern Wealth Management (“Modern Wealth”), a registered investment advisory (RIA) firm founded to meet the evolving needs of today’s financial professionals and its clients, today announced an asset purchase agreement of a Rochester, New York-based advisory practice led by industry veteran Craig Houck. The transaction adds a four-person advisory team to Modern Wealth’s Rochester office, with Houck assuming the role of managing director.
Overseeing $300 million in client assets, Houck and his team have joined Modern Wealth to leverage its robust, fully integrated wealth management platform—expanding its ability to deliver comprehensive services including financial planning, tax planning and preparation, estate planning, investment management and more. This move further expands Modern Wealth’s largest East Coast presence, which includes a growing retirement plan advisory and financial planning business, and reinforces the firm’s commitment to long-term growth in the Northeast.
“Modern Wealth provides a platform that empowers advisors to deliver exceptional client experience while accelerating their own growth,” said Houck. “In particular, the firm’s deep tax planning expertise allows us to better serve clients navigating increasingly complex financial decisions, especially as they move through retirement. Joining Modern Wealth enables us to expand our service model, collaborate with tax and planning specialists, and deliver greater value to clients with more speed and scale.”
The team brings decades of collective expertise in retirement planning, investment strategies, tax planning and estate considerations—helping clients achieve long-term financial security and navigate retirement transitions. By leveraging Modern Wealth’s Organic Growth Hub, the team will gain greater opportunity to expand within its target market. The hub delivers proven strategies for lead generation, distribution and client onboarding, alongside centralized support across marketing, technology, compliance, human resources and operations. The transition also creates structured career-path opportunities for the firm’s next generation of advisors, underscoring Modern Wealth’s commitment to talent development.
“Craig’s team’s decision to join Modern Wealth is a testament to the appeal of our approach— building strong local teams and giving advisors the resources, technology and expertise to thrive,” said Jason Gordo, President & Co-Founder of Modern Wealth. “Rochester represents our largest East Coast market, and the team strengthens our financial planning capabilities while supporting continued expansion in the region. They exemplify the type of entrepreneurial, client-focused and collaborative advisors we are proud to welcome to our platform.”
Modern Wealth continued to build strong momentum throughout 2025, adding 19 new advisory teams, expanding service lines and investing in platform capabilities with nearly $11 billion in assets under management. The firm’s continued expansion reflects increasing demand from advisors seeking resources to scale their practices while maintaining a strong local identity and client-first culture.
