BENTONVILLE, Ark., Oct 31 — Walmart today announced a strategic investment in Base Power, a Texas-based energy company, along with an agreement that will make Base’s home energy offerings available to Walmart customers and Sam’s Club members – expanding access to affordable energy solutions that can benefit both households and the grid. Base’s home battery systems are designed to help lower energy costs when the grid is on and provide backup power when it’s not.
Beginning in November, customers and members who enroll in an eligible Base home battery offering at participating Walmart and Sam’s Club locations will receive 20% off Base Power’s standard upfront battery installation fee.
More Options for Home Energy
Base Power installs, owns and maintains its home battery systems, with customers paying an upfront installation fee, which is a fraction of the cost of traditional whole-home backup solutions. In eligible areas of Texas, Base also offers electricity plans designed to help customers lower their bills.
“We’ve built Base around a simple idea: families deserve electricity that’s affordable when the grid is working and dependable backup power when it isn’t,” said Zach Dell, CEO of Base Power. “Walmart has been helping Americans save money and live better for more than 60 years. Base brings that same commitment to home energy, and we’re excited to do it together.”
“Customers and members count on Walmart and Sam’s Club to help them make the most of their budgets,” said Shayne Wahlmeier, SVP of Walmart Energy. “Base Power gives them a practical way to help lower energy costs, have backup power during outages and support a more reliable grid. We’re proud to make these solutions more accessible through Walmart and Sam’s Club.”
Starting in Texas
Texas is Base Power’s largest and most established market, where Base serves more than 35,000 members. More than 20,000 of those households have a Base battery at home, and the remaining members have their electricity from Base. Walmart is launching these offerings in Texas first and expects to expand to additional locations and markets over time.
Product availability, savings potential, installation requirements and pricing vary by location, utility service area and customer circumstances.
Customers and members can meet with Base representatives at participating Walmart and Sam’s Club locations to learn about available services, ask questions and enroll.
