LUMAMI, NAGALAND, 9th October 2026: Four faculty members of Nagaland University have been recognised among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in the latest list based on research impact and bibliometric data prepared by Stanford University researchers.

Three of the University’s faculty members have also been included in the Career-Long Top 2% Scientists list, marking a significant recognition of the institution’s growing research contributions across diverse scientific disciplines.

The four faculty members recognised in the latest World’s Top 2% Scientists list are Prof. Prabhakar Sharma, Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Prof. Ambrish Singh, Department of Chemistry, Prof. Joginder Singh, Department of Botany and Prof. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar, Department of Biotechnology.

Congratulating the faculty, Prof. Jagadish K. The Career-Long Top 2% Scientists list features Prof. Ambrish Singh, Prof. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar and Prof. Joginder Singh, recognising their sustained research impact over the course of their scientific careers.

The recognition covers researchers whose work demonstrates significant influence within their respective fields based on standardised bibliometric indicators, including citations, h-index and other measures of research impact. The ranking draws on Scopus data provided by Elsevier through ICSR Lab and classifies researchers across 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields.

DIVERSE RESEARCH AREAS

Prof. Prabhakar Sharma, Head, Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, works at the intersection of hydrology and environmental engineering. His research covers biochar applications for contaminant remediation, microplastic pollution, colloid fate and transport, aquifer characterisation and groundwater management through aquifer storage and recovery. He has published more than 119 peer-reviewed research articles and holds five patents. His research has received national and international funding and involves collaborations with institutions in India and abroad. He has an h-index of 47 and more than 8,200 citations.

Speaking about this recognition, Prof. Prabhakar Sharma said, “This recognition is a humbling acknowledgement of my continued efforts to advance impactful environmental research and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future. It motivates me to further strengthen interdisciplinary research, develop collaboration, and translate scientific knowledge into meaningful solutions for society and the environment. I sincerely thank my colleagues, students, collaborators, and Nagaland University for their constant support and encouragement.”

Prof. Ambrish Singh, Department of Chemistry, conducts research in electrochemistry, physical and materials chemistry, electroanalytical chemistry, corrosion and corrosion inhibitors, and polymers. His research has included work on corrosion inhibitors for different corrosive environments. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, Prof. Singh has an h-index of more than 55 and over 10,000 citations. He has also been associated with more than 56 intellectual property rights, including patents and other forms of intellectual property across multiple jurisdictions.

Prof. Ambrish Singh said, “Science is a pursuit of the unknown that demands both rigorous discipline and unwavering curiosity. This recognition is a reflection of the dedicated collaborators, mentors, and students who have supported my work over the years. Seven years of inclusion in the list of top 2% scientist of the world represents a continuous commitment and devotion to the research work done in the past and also a catalyst to the work to be done in future.”

Prof. Joginder Singh, Department of Botany, works in areas spanning microbiology, plant sciences and environmental research. He has authored more than 120 research and review articles, edited 15 books published by leading international publishers and contributed to around 60 book chapters. His work and academic contributions have led to collaborations and engagement with several scientific societies and journals internationally. He also serves as a reviewer for a range of journals covering environmental science, biotechnology, microbiology and allied disciplines.

Prof. Joginder Singh said, “Research is a journey of uncovering nature’s biological intricacies, and it demands patience, rigour and a deep commitment to science. Being recognised among the world’s top 2% of scientists is a reflection of a lifetime dedicated to advancing plant research and contributing to the scientific community. I hope this recognition also inspires the next generation of researchers to pursue science with curiosity, perseverance and purpose..”

Prof. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar, Head, Department of Biotechnology, Nagaland University, works in biotechnology and biomedical research, with a focus on understanding molecular mechanisms associated with metabolic disorders and developing strategies for oral insulin delivery. His research also explores the use of natural products to mimic signalling pathways involved in diabetes and investigates combinations and alternative approaches for managing diabetes mellitus and its complications. An alumnus of IIT Madras, Prof. Prabhakar has previously featured in the World’s Top 2% Scientists lists published in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Prof. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar said, “Being recognized among the World’s Top 2% Scientists for the sixth consecutive year is an honour that inspires me to pursue research for better human health and society. From Kachhubi, Madhubani, Bihar, to the global scientific community, my journey reflects perseverance, curiosity, and dedication. The recognition of these faculty members reflects the breadth of research being undertaken at Nagaland University, spanning environmental engineering, groundwater management, electrochemistry, materials science, microbiology, plant sciences and biotechnology.

The Stanford-based World’s Top 2% Scientists database identifies researchers based on a composite citation indicator (c-score), both with and without self-citations, along with percentile-based measures within scientific fields and sub-fields. Researchers are classified according to the Science-Metrix classification system, covering 22 broad scientific fields and 174 sub-fields. The list is intended to provide a standardised view of research impact based on bibliometric data rather than a single measure of academic performance.
