Employees across India participate in cleanliness drives, waste-management initiatives, tree plantation and community welfare activities

Chandigarh, October 08, 2026: State Bank of India (SBI), the nation’s largest bank, observed the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign across the Bank from September 17 to October 2, 2026, reaffirming its commitment to cleanliness, environmental responsibility and community well-being through creation of a healthier and cleaner society.

The campaign was launched across the Bank on September 17 with the administration of the Swachhata Pledge, followed by active participation by employees across all the branches and offices in India. In line with the objectives of the DFS, Government of India, the Bank undertook a range of cleanliness, environmental and community-focused initiatives during the campaign.

As part of the campaign, SBI employees participated in cleanliness and sanitation drives at Bank premises, public and community spaces, including identified toilets and sanitation complexes. Activities also included clean-up drives around water bodies, source segregation and responsible solid-waste management awareness, initiatives to reduce single-use plastic, and Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (RRR) drives involving the collection, reuse and recycling of books, toys, clothes, shoes and electronic items, wherever undertaken. Tree plantation and other environment-friendly activities, along with awareness programmes and competitions, further strengthened employee and community engagement.

The campaign also extended beyond cleanliness, to social welfare and the dignity and well-being of sanitation workers (Safai Mitras). In line with the activity framework shared by DFS, initiatives included awareness and facilitation around social security schemes such as PMJDY, PMSBY, PMJJBY and APY, as well as activities such as health check-up camps, distribution of PPE and other support items, and felicitation of Safai Mitras, wherever undertaken.

The wide participation by SBI employees helped reinforce awareness around cleanliness, sanitation, waste segregation, recycling, environmental sustainability and collective responsibility, while supporting community engagement and the welfare of sanitation workers.

SBI remains committed to carrying the spirit of Swachhata Hi Seva beyond the campaign period by encouraging cleanliness, environmental stewardship and community engagement as an integral part of its workplace and social initiatives.
