Mumbai, 30th September, 2026: DocuBay, the leading platform for premium documentaries, is set to premiere 41 Alive – The Silkyara Tunnel Rescue Story, a 60-minute rescue thriller produced by Dreamcatchers Films and directed by Akshit Mathur. The film revisits the dramatic 17-day operation to rescue 41 workers trapped inside the collapsed Silkyara-Barkot tunnel in Uttarakhand in 2023. The documentary will stream on DocuBay from 30th September in Hindi with English subtitles.
On 12 November 2023, a section of the under-construction Silkyara-Barkot tunnel collapsed, trapping 41 workers inside. What followed was a 17-day rescue operation involving multiple agencies, rescue teams, engineers, specialists and experts, culminating in the safe evacuation of all 41 workers on 28 November.
41 Alive takes audiences beyond the headlines to explore the human story behind the rescue — the workers who spent more than two weeks underground, the teams working around the clock outside, the experts navigating an unpredictable geological environment, and the rat-hole miners whose manual efforts helped clear the final stretch of debris.
The film also features the perspective of Professor Arnold Dix, the international tunnelling expert who was involved in the rescue operation, offering insight into the complex engineering and geological challenges faced by the teams.
At its heart, 41 Alive is told through the voices of those who experienced the rescue first-hand. Accounts from survivors and the rat-hole miners bring an intimate dimension to a story that was watched by millions, while the film reconstructs the uncertainty, setbacks and determination that defined those 17 days.
The film also examines the larger questions surrounding infrastructure development in the Himalayas — where engineering ambition, geological complexity and the unpredictability of nature intersect.
