New Delhi, Sep 8: Apple is heading into a potentially strong quarter in India, with iPhone shipments expected to rise sharply as the company prepares to unveil its latest premium lineup and make its long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone market.

Industry estimates suggest that Apple’s iPhone shipments in India could increase by around 40 per cent during the launch quarter. The company’s first foldable iPhone is also expected to make a strong entry, with analysts projecting that it could capture a significant share of the country’s premium foldable segment.

The timing is important for Apple as India continues to emerge as a key growth market for premium smartphones. Rising consumer interest in high-end devices, wider retail availability and stronger demand for new technology have helped Apple strengthen its presence in the country.

The upcoming launch could give that momentum another push. Apple is expected to unveil its new premium iPhone models and its first foldable device at its September 9 event. The foldable phone is likely to attract particular attention as Apple enters a segment that has so far been dominated by other major smartphone brands.

For Indian consumers, the arrival of a foldable iPhone could make the technology more mainstream. Until now, foldable smartphones have remained largely a premium and relatively small segment, but Apple’s strong brand presence could encourage more buyers to consider the new form factor.

The launch also comes ahead of India’s crucial festive shopping period, when demand for smartphones, electronics and other consumer products typically receives a boost. A strong response to the new iPhone range could therefore benefit not only Apple but also retailers, distributors and businesses across the wider electronics ecosystem.

Apple’s growing focus on India is also significant from a manufacturing perspective. The company has expanded iPhone production in the country over recent years, strengthening India’s role in its global supply chain. A sustained rise in domestic demand could further support this broader ecosystem.

The premium smartphone market, however, is becoming increasingly competitive. Consumers are now looking beyond brand value and are paying closer attention to design, camera capabilities, battery life, artificial intelligence features and the overall ownership experience.

The foldable segment could become one of the biggest areas of competition. Apple’s entry is expected to put pressure on existing players while giving consumers more choice in the premium category. Analysts also expect the launch to help raise awareness of foldable technology among buyers who have so far preferred conventional smartphones.

For Apple, the upcoming launch is therefore more than an annual product update. It represents an opportunity to deepen its position in one of the world’s fastest-growing smartphone markets while using a new product category to attract consumers looking for something different.

With strong interest building around the new iPhone lineup and the expected foldable device, the coming months could prove important for Apple’s growth story in India. A strong launch would further underline the country’s growing importance to the company’s premium smartphone business.
