Kolkata, Sep 07: The British Council, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, is set to host a photography exhibition and artist talk by photographer Sonal Jindal as part of its Culture Fridays series and the UK’s National Year of Reading on 10 and 11 September 2026 at its Kolkata premises.

Titled Two Worlds Woven into One: A Portrait of the United Kingdom, the exhibition captures the contrasts and unexpected connections between urban and rural BritainThrough images of landscapes, communities and everyday life, the collection offers a glimpse into the diverse experiences that shape contemporary British identity.

The exhibition invites visitors to explore the richness and diversity of life in the UK through photography. Visitors can also explore the British Council Library’s photography collection, featuring books and resources on visual storytelling, photography, culture and contemporary Britain. 

The exhibition will be followed by an artist talk with Sonal Jindal on 11 September, offering audiences an opportunity to learn more about her creative practice and the ideas behind the collection. Drawing inspiration from literature, poetry, and cinema, Jindal approaches photography as a form of storytelling rooted in emotion, with a particular interest in street photography and the fleeting moments of human connection. 

Through this exhibition and conversation, the British Council continues to create opportunities for audiences in India to engage with contemporary perspectives from the UK through arts, culture and storytelling.
