Mumbai, Sep 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai on Tuesday, bringing together leaders from the financial, technology and digital payments sectors to discuss how emerging technologies could reshape the future of finance.
The seventh edition of the four-day event will be held in Mumbai from September 8 to 11. It is expected to bring together policymakers, regulators, banks, fintech companies, investors and technology experts from India and across the world.
This year’s discussions will centre on agentic artificial intelligence, tokenisation and quantum technology, with a broader focus on building financial systems that are trusted, connected and accessible to more people.
Agentic AI is expected to receive particular attention as financial institutions explore ways to use AI not just to provide information, but also to handle routine tasks and support processes such as customer service, fraud monitoring, compliance and lending.
India is also looking at the next phase of digital payments, with the development of technology that could allow AI agents to make certain low-value UPI payments on behalf of users within defined limits. The initiative reflects the country’s growing effort to combine artificial intelligence with its digital payments infrastructure.
Tokenisation is another major area of interest. It could make the handling and settlement of financial assets more efficient by creating digital representations of assets and automating parts of transactions. Regulators are already exploring its potential in areas such as corporate bonds.
For India’s fintech industry, the event is expected to provide an important platform for startups and established financial companies to showcase new technologies, build partnerships and explore opportunities in international markets.
The gathering also comes at a time when digital finance is becoming an increasingly important part of everyday life. From instant payments and digital banking to AI-powered financial services, technology is changing how consumers and businesses access and use financial products.
PM Modi’s participation is expected to highlight India’s growing role in global fintech and its push to make digital financial services more inclusive, secure and accessible.
With technology developing rapidly, the discussions at the event are likely to focus not only on innovation but also on issues such as consumer protection, data security, regulation and trust. These will be crucial as newer technologies move from experimentation into everyday financial services.
