New Delhi, Sep 3: India and Belgium are looking to give their long-standing relationship a broader strategic and economic dimension, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever holding talks in New Delhi on Thursday.
The two leaders reviewed bilateral ties and discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in trade and investment, defence, technology, renewable energy, critical minerals, semiconductors and maritime security. The talks also covered regional and global developments of mutual interest.
A key focus of the engagement is strengthening economic ties. India and Belgium have set their sights on doubling bilateral trade over the next five years, while encouraging greater investment and collaboration in emerging industries. The partnership is gradually moving beyond its traditional strength in the diamond sector towards technology, clean energy and strategic manufacturing.
Defence cooperation is also gaining importance, with both countries working to expand defence dialogue, high-level exchanges, training and industrial collaboration. The two sides have also highlighted the need for closer maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
The latest talks underline a shared effort to build a more modern, diversified and future-oriented India-Belgium partnership, creating new opportunities for businesses, technology companies and strategic industries in both countries.
