Speaking at a business roundtable organised by the Consulate General of India in New York in association with Bank of America, Sitharaman outlined the government’s efforts to create a stronger and more predictable environment for businesses and long-term investors.
The Finance Minister said India’s growth story has been supported by a series of structural reforms aimed at improving regulatory certainty, simplifying compliance and making it easier for businesses to operate. She pointed to measures such as the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code as part of the government’s broader reform agenda.
Sitharaman also highlighted the government’s focus on building productive capital assets and strengthening infrastructure. She said continued investment in infrastructure, particularly in areas such as aviation, is helping create the foundation for sustained economic expansion.
India’s recent economic performance was another key point of discussion. Sitharaman highlighted the country’s 7.8 per cent growth in the first quarter of 2026-27, saying the performance demonstrates the resilience of the Indian economy despite continuing global uncertainties.
The Finance Minister also discussed opportunities in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, data centres and global capability centres, while emphasising the need to ensure adequate credit support for micro, small and medium enterprises.
She said the government’s approach is focused on encouraging investment, supporting industry and creating conditions that allow businesses to expand over the long term.
The interaction with New York-based investors provided an opportunity to discuss India’s economic outlook, investment climate and the reforms being undertaken to strengthen the country’s position as a global investment destination.
Sitharaman’s message to investors was centred on India’s combination of economic growth, infrastructure development, policy reforms and a large domestic market, which together provide a broad base for future investment and business expansion.
