Bhubaneswar, Aug 27: The Hirakud Reservoir continued to witness substantial water inflow on Thursday, with the reservoir level recorded at 624.04 feet and 12 sluice gates kept open.
Eight gates on the left side and four on the right side of the dam are currently operational. The average inflow stood at 2,64,685 cusecs, while the average outflow was recorded at 2,26,021 cusecs.
Of the total water released, 1,91,760 cusecs was discharged through the spillway and 31,320 cusecs through the power channel. Around 229 cusecs was supplied for industrial use, while 2,712 cusecs was released through canals.
Downstream water discharge remained substantial, with Mundali recording 5,82,865 cusecs, followed by Barmul at 4,12,000 cusecs and Khairmal at 3,95,000 cusecs. Patharla recorded 60,887 cusecs, while Belgaon reported 23,000 cusecs.
The latest figures indicate that significant water continues to flow through the downstream river system, even as the reservoir’s average inflow shows signs of moderation.
Authorities are continuing to monitor reservoir levels, inflows and downstream discharge as the water situation evolves.
