New Delhi, Aug 27: India’s tablet market continued its positive growth momentum in the first half of 2026, expanding 15 per cent year-on-year as consumers increasingly opted for devices offering larger displays, stronger performance and greater versatility.
According to industry research, the premium tablet segment priced above Rs 20,000 emerged as the standout performer, growing 74 per cent year-on-year and accounting for 89 per cent of the market.
The strong premium performance reflects a clear change in consumer preferences. Tablets are increasingly being used not only for entertainment but also for online learning, professional work, content creation and multitasking. The growing availability of larger screens, higher configurations, keyboard support and advanced connectivity is further strengthening their appeal.
The trend is consistent with the broader momentum seen earlier in 2026. CMR reported that premium tablets accounted for 86 per cent of shipments in the first quarter, while large-screen devices above 10 inches represented nearly 90 per cent of shipments.
Counterpoint Research has also highlighted the growing preference for larger-screen and higher-specification tablets in India. In Q1 2026, the market grew 5 per cent year-on-year, while domestic tablet manufacturing increased by more than 61 per cent, pointing to strengthening demand as well as a more robust local production ecosystem.
The rise of premium tablets also underlines the evolving role of the category in India’s personal technology market. With consumers seeking devices that combine portability with laptop-like functionality, tablets are increasingly becoming practical tools for productivity, education and digital entertainment.
The continued growth of the segment presents a positive outlook for manufacturers, retailers and the wider technology ecosystem. With demand shifting towards feature-rich and larger-screen products, India’s tablet market is well positioned for further innovation and expansion.
Overall, the latest market performance highlights the growing acceptance of tablets as versatile computing devices and reinforces the strong potential of India’s premium tablet segment.
