Addressing the potential for closer economic collaboration, Goyal said India and Japan can explore new avenues of cooperation in chip manufacturing, advanced technologies and steel production. He emphasised the scope for businesses in both countries to work together in areas that can strengthen manufacturing capabilities and create new opportunities across global markets.

Semiconductors have emerged as a key priority for India as the country seeks to build a competitive domestic chip ecosystem and attract investments in advanced manufacturing. Greater collaboration with Japanese companies could support technology partnerships, investment and the development of resilient semiconductor supply chains.

The steel sector also presents significant opportunities for deeper engagement, particularly in advanced production technologies, high-value steel products and manufacturing processes.

Goyal said stronger India-Japan economic ties can help businesses tap emerging opportunities while contributing to more resilient and diversified global supply chains.

India and Japan have been strengthening their economic partnership across manufacturing, infrastructure, technology and investment. The renewed focus on semiconductors and steel comes amid India’s broader efforts to expand its manufacturing base, attract global investment and enhance its role in international supply chains.

Greater cooperation between the two countries in these strategic sectors could boost investment and technology transfer while supporting long-term industrial growth in both India and Japan.
