New Delhi, Aug 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 25 reviewed six major infrastructure projects with a combined value of more than Rs 30,000 crore at the 53rd PRAGATI meeting held at Seva Teerth.
The projects, spread across nine states and covering the railway, road and power sectors, are aimed at improving connectivity, strengthening infrastructure and supporting economic and industrial activity. The review focused on project timelines, coordination among agencies and the resolution of implementation-related challenges.
PRAGATI, short for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, is a technology-enabled platform through which the government monitors major projects and addresses bottlenecks affecting their progress. The mechanism brings together officials from the Centre and state governments to review key issues and facilitate faster decision-making.
During the meeting, PM Modi stressed the importance of planning infrastructure projects in an integrated manner. Ministries and state governments were asked to examine the possibility of developing common utility corridors wherever technically and economically feasible, particularly during the planning of major transport and infrastructure projects.
Integrated planning at an early stage can help avoid duplication, improve the use of resources and reduce disruptions during construction. It can also support smoother coordination between different agencies involved in large infrastructure projects.
The Prime Minister also underlined that faster execution should be matched by strong quality standards. Ministries, states and implementing agencies were encouraged to use modern technologies and strengthen quality control, supervision and monitoring throughout the construction and implementation process.
PM Modi further emphasised that major infrastructure projects should be viewed as interconnected systems rather than as individual sections or separate construction packages. Such an end-to-end approach can help identify potential challenges early and improve coordination during execution.
The meeting also focused on the broader economic consequences of project delays. Apart from increasing construction costs, delays can postpone the benefits that infrastructure projects are expected to bring to citizens, businesses and the wider economy.
Timely completion of roads, rail projects and power infrastructure can improve the movement of people and goods, strengthen supply chains and create better conditions for businesses and investment. Infrastructure development also generates economic activity across construction, manufacturing, engineering, logistics and related sectors.
The Prime Minister called for continued improvements in project execution, stronger coordination among stakeholders and a proactive approach to resolving issues. The focus was on ensuring that large public investments are converted into completed assets that deliver practical benefits on the ground.
The 53rd PRAGATI meeting reflects the government’s continued emphasis on efficient infrastructure delivery, technology-driven monitoring and closer coordination between the Centre and states, with the broader objective of supporting economic development and improving public services.
