Noida, Aug 25: IMS Law College, Sector 62, Noida, organised a two-day orientation programme to mark the commencement of the new academic session. The programme aimed to familiarise students with the academic environment, the fundamentals of legal education, career opportunities in the legal profession, and the importance of ethics and practical learning.
On the first day of the programme, eminent personalities and experts from the legal and judicial fraternity interacted with the students and shared their valuable experiences. Manmohan Sharma, Former Director of the Delhi Judicial Academy; Dr. K.S. Bhati, Advocate and Legal Expert at the Supreme Court of India; and Ranjan Kapoor addressed the students and highlighted the importance of continuous learning, discipline, ethical values and practical knowledge for building a successful career in law.
The programme was graced by Justice Shambhunath Srivastava, Former Judge of the Allahabad High Court, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, he emphasised that legal education is not merely preparation for a profession but also an important means of upholding justice, equality and constitutional values in society. He encouraged the students to become responsible, sensitive and ethical legal professionals.
Addressing the students during the orientation programme, Mr. Chirag Gupta, Vice President, IMS Noida, said that acquiring theoretical knowledge alone is not sufficient for a law student. He emphasised the need for students to develop a deeper understanding of society, justice and ethical values and incorporate these principles into their lives. He added that a successful advocate or legal professional must possess the ability to connect classroom learning with real-life social challenges and develop practical solutions.
Motivating the students, Prof. (Dr.) J.K. Sharma, Advisor, IMS, said that the true purpose of legal education is not limited to career development but also extends to protecting justice, promoting social equality and strengthening democratic values. He stressed that students should develop sensitivity, ethical conduct, analytical thinking and a positive outlook to contribute meaningfully towards making the justice delivery system more effective.
Dr. Anjum Hasan, Head of the Department, IMS Law College, said that the two-day orientation programme would familiarise newly admitted students with various aspects of legal education and help them understand the academic environment as well as future career opportunities. She added that academicians and legal experts would guide the students on career development, ethical values, personality development and other important aspects of professional growth throughout the programme.
The orientation programme provided the students with an opportunity to interact with distinguished professionals from the legal and judicial fraternity and gain valuable insights into the evolving landscape of legal education and the profession.
