New Delhi, Aug 22: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Russia on August 23 and 24 to co-chair the 27th session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).

The visit comes at a time when India and Russia are working to expand their longstanding partnership across several areas, including trade, investment, technology, science and economic cooperation.

Jaishankar is travelling to Russia at the invitation of Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. During the visit, he is also scheduled to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for discussions on bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

The IRIGC-TEC serves as an important platform for both countries to review ongoing cooperation and identify new opportunities in trade, economic relations, science, technology and other areas.

The upcoming meeting is expected to provide an opportunity to strengthen economic engagement and explore new areas of cooperation. Both countries have been looking at ways to expand bilateral trade, improve investment ties and develop partnerships in emerging and high-technology sectors.

India and Russia have also identified areas such as energy, transport, science and technology, education, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing as important avenues for deeper cooperation.

Jaishankar’s visit is therefore expected to give fresh momentum to the broader India-Russia partnership and reinforce regular high-level dialogue between the two countries.

The two-day visit will also underline India’s focus on maintaining strong economic and strategic engagement with Russia while exploring new opportunities that can contribute to long-term growth and cooperation.
