Bengaluru, Aug 22: India’s growing demand for premium mangoes abroad has given a fresh boost to agricultural exports, with Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) recording a 33 per cent year-on-year increase in mango handling between April and July 2026.

From Karnataka Orchards to the World: Bengaluru Airport Ships 2.63 Million Mangoes

During the four-month period, the airport handled 1,226 metric tonnes of mangoes and shipped around 2.63 million pieces to 38 international destinations, according to an official statement. The United Kingdom and the United States emerged as the leading overseas markets for the shipments.

The mangoes were transported through 16 airlines, highlighting the growing role of air cargo in connecting India’s agricultural produce with consumers in international markets.

The strong export performance also reflects the growing global appetite for Indian mango varieties. With their seasonal nature and need for careful handling, mangoes require efficient logistics to reach overseas markets while maintaining freshness and quality.

BLR Airport’s integrated cold-chain and cargo infrastructure has supported the movement of these perishable consignments, helping exporters transport mangoes more efficiently to markets across the world.

The growth in mango exports is also an encouraging development for India’s agricultural and food-export ecosystem. Better air-cargo connectivity can help farmers, exporters and businesses reach high-value international markets and create greater opportunities for Indian produce.

The latest figures further strengthen Bengaluru’s position as an important logistics gateway for agricultural exports. The airport’s expanding cargo network is helping connect Karnataka’s produce with global markets and supporting India’s wider ambition to increase the reach and value of its agricultural exports.

The 2026 mango season demonstrates how stronger aviation and logistics infrastructure can open new opportunities for Indian farmers and exporters, taking the country’s much-loved mangoes from local orchards to tables around the world.
