Bengaluru, Aug 21: Karnataka is preparing to give a fresh boost to tourism across its Coastal and Malnad regions, with the government focusing on better infrastructure, new tourism experiences and greater opportunities for local businesses.

The proposed tourism policy is expected to promote the region’s beaches, forests, waterfalls, heritage sites and cultural attractions while encouraging investment in hotels, homestays, transport, adventure tourism and other travel-related services.

The initiative could provide a significant lift to Karnataka’s travel and tourism economy, creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs, artisans, hospitality businesses and service providers. Increased tourist footfall could also generate employment and strengthen incomes in smaller towns and rural communities.

The Coastal belt, with its beaches and maritime attractions, has considerable potential for cruise and leisure tourism. Meanwhile, the Malnad region can attract visitors through its natural landscapes, eco-tourism destinations, trekking routes, waterfalls and rich cultural heritage.

The government is also looking at improving connectivity and visitor facilities so that tourists can explore more destinations comfortably. Greater private-sector participation is expected to support the development of modern tourism infrastructure and new experiences.

Sustainable tourism is likely to remain an important priority, with efforts aimed at protecting the region’s natural and cultural assets while promoting economic activity.

With its diverse landscape and strong cultural identity, Karnataka’s Coastal and Malnad belt has the potential to become a major tourism growth engine. The proposed policy could help transform the region into a more attractive destination while ensuring that tourism benefits local communities and businesses.
