New Delhi, Aug 21: Starlink could play an important role in improving internet connectivity in underserved parts of India, particularly rural and remote areas, according to Elon Musk.

The satellite-based internet service is expected to help extend reliable high-speed connectivity to communities where conventional broadband and mobile networks remain difficult or costly to deploy.

Improved rural connectivity could support access to online education, telemedicine, digital banking, e-commerce and government services. Better internet access may also create new opportunities for small businesses, farmers, students and rural entrepreneurs.

For remote villages, satellite connectivity can provide an alternative to traditional network infrastructure and help reduce gaps in digital access. It could also support the expansion of digital services and strengthen communication during emergencies and natural disasters.

The potential expansion of satellite internet in India is therefore being viewed as an opportunity to complement existing telecom infrastructure and accelerate rural network development.

If effectively deployed, improved connectivity could help bring more rural communities into India’s growing digital economy and contribute to more inclusive digital development.
