New Delhi, Aug 18: Keeping Aadhaar details updated is becoming easier for schoolchildren and their families as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) expands its nationwide biometric update campaign through schools.
More than two crore biometric updates have now been completed under the special drive, with the programme reaching over 1.56 lakh schools across the country. By taking the service directly to educational institutions, the initiative is helping children complete the required process in a more convenient setting.
For many parents, routine government documentation can involve extra travel, time and coordination around school and work schedules. The school-based approach is intended to reduce some of that burden by making the service available where children already spend much of their day.
Aadhaar enrolment for children below five years includes basic demographic information and a photograph. Fingerprints and iris details are collected later because a young child’s biometric features are still developing.
Biometric information is required to be updated when a child reaches five years of age and again at 15. These updates help ensure that the Aadhaar record continues to reflect the child’s changing biometric characteristics.
UIDAI had also waived charges for mandatory biometric updates for children aged 7 to 15 years from October 1, 2025, for one year, encouraging families to complete the process within the required period.
The update can become particularly important as children grow older and Aadhaar-based verification is required for different services. Updated biometric information can help make authentication easier for processes connected with government benefits, examinations and higher education.
The initiative also places schools in a more active role in helping families access essential public services. For students, completing the update at school can make the process less disruptive, while parents can avoid making a separate trip in many cases.
The milestone comes as Aadhaar continues to play a significant role in identity verification across India. Maintaining accurate information is therefore important for ensuring that individuals can use Aadhaar-based services without unnecessary difficulties.
With millions of children moving through different stages of education each year, making mandatory updates simple and accessible can save families time while encouraging timely compliance.
The school-based drive is ultimately about convenience and continuity—helping children keep their Aadhaar records updated as they grow, while making an important administrative process easier for parents and schools to manage.
