Hazra Park Durgotsab Begins 84th Year with Khuti Puja & Launch of ‘Chirayat’ Theme

Kolkata, Aug 17: Hazra Park Durgotsab marked the beginning of its 84th Durga Puja celebrations with its traditional Khuti Puja and Theme Launch on the occasion of Independence Day today at Jatin Das Park (Hazra Crossing), Kolkata. The event heralded the commencement of preparations for this year’s grand festivities, which will celebrate Bengal’s timeless artistic and cultural heritage.

The Khuti Puja ceremony was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Sri Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, MLA, and Sri Sayan Deb Chatterjee, Joint Secretary, Hazra Park Durgotsab Committee, along with members of the organising committee and other eminent personalities.

This year, Hazra Park Durgotsab presents its 84th edition with the evocative theme “Chirayat – The Roots of Bengal: Rooted in the Past, Infinite in Consciousness.” The theme is envisioned as a heartfelt tribute to the enduring artistic legacy of Bengal and its rich cultural traditions that have transcended generations.

“Chirayat” explores the eternal connection between Bengal’s past and its evolving cultural consciousness. It celebrates the artistic expressions, traditions, craftsmanship and cultural values that have shaped the identity of Bengal over centuries. The theme reflects the belief that while time changes and civilizations evolve, the language of true art remains eternal.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Sayan Deb Chatterjee, Joint Secretary, Hazra Park Durgotsab Committee, said, “Khuti Puja marks the auspicious beginning of our Durga Puja preparations and is a moment of great significance for all of us at Hazra Park Durgotsab. The traditional rituals of Khuti Puja, accompanied by the beats of dhak, marked the auspicious beginning of the preparations for this year’s Durga Puja. The occasion brought together members of the community, cultural enthusiasts and well-wishers to celebrate the spirit of Bengal’s most cherished festival.

With the Khuti Puja, preparations for the 84th edition of Hazra Park Durgotsab are now officially underway. The committee promises an immersive celebration of art, heritage, tradition and community spirit, with “Chirayat – The Roots of Bengal” serving as the cultural heart of this year’s festivities.
