Bhubaneswar, Aug. 14 (UDN): Odisha Director General of Police YB Khurania met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhavan on Friday, just two days ahead of the end of his tenure as the state’s police chief.
Khurania’s meeting with the Chief Minister assumes significance as the Odisha government prepares for a leadership transition in the state police force. He is scheduled to retire from service on August 16.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Anu Garg and senior officials from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Focus Shifts to Next DGP
With Khurania’s retirement approaching, attention has now turned to the appointment of his successor. The state government is expected to take a decision on the next DGP soon, although no official announcement has been made so far.
The appointment process has also gained importance amid the ongoing legal developments surrounding the selection of Odisha’s next police chief.
The Supreme Court has barred the UPSC from proceeding with the DGP selection process until the next hearing on August 18, adding another layer of uncertainty to the leadership transition.
Khurania’s Two-Year Tenure
Khurania assumed charge as the Odisha DGP in August 2024 and has led the state police force for nearly two years.
During his tenure, the Odisha Police dealt with a range of law-and-order challenges, crime-related issues and policing operations across the state.
With his retirement now imminent, the government faces the task of ensuring a smooth transition at the top of the police administration.
