For 15 years, the Sea Turtle Conservation Programme has rescued and rehabilitated injured sea turtles, caring for more than 500 turtles to date. In partnership with Reefscapers, Four Seasons Resorts Maldives has also planted its 9,000th coral frame, contributing to the ongoing restoration of the surrounding reefs.
Among the programme’s most remarkable initiatives is Flying Turtles, which provides permanent homes in accredited aquariums around the world for turtles whose injuries prevent them from ever returning to the wild. Others, particularly Olive Ridley turtles, are carefully rehabilitated and released back into the ocean. One of the programme’s most heartwarming success stories is Peggy, whose recovery and return to the sea stands as a testament to what dedicated conservation efforts can achieve.
The commitment to protecting the Maldives extends beyond turtles and coral reefs. Four Seasons Resorts Maldives works closely with the Maldives Manta Conservation Programme, in partnership with Manta Trust, supporting one of the world‘s longest-running manta ray research initiatives. The programme was founded by former Four Seasons marine biologist Guy Stevens and continues to play an important role in advancing research and protecting manta ray populations across the Maldives.
Sustainability is equally embedded in the way the resorts operate. From an on-site water bottling plant that helps reduce single-use plastics to locally grown produce used across the restaurants, thoughtful environmental practices are part of daily life. Beyond environmental stewardship, Four Seasons Resorts Maldives has completed 25 years investing in the local community through its Apprenticeship Programme, equipping young Maldivians with the skills to build successful careers in luxury hospitality and creating meaningful employment opportunities for future generations.
