Structured Placements Signal a New Era for India's Performing Arts Talent

Mumbai, July 13: As India’s music industry is projected to reach ₹75 billion by 2028, driven by digital platforms and the creator economy, new career opportunities are emerging beyond the performance stage. According to the FICCI-EY Media and Entertainment Report 2026, the country’s music segment grew 10% in 2025 to ₹59 billion and is expected to continue its strong growth trajectory. Recognising this shift, NMIMS School of Performing Arts (SoPA) has facilitated placement sessions with Artium Academy Pvt. Ltd., an online music learning platform, creating structured career pathways for its music students.

Through this initiative, students secured roles with competitive compensation packages starting from ₹45,000 per month and above, depending on their specialisation and role, underscoring the growing demand for professionally trained music educators in India’s organised music education sector. The placement sessions offered third-year Western Music and Indian Music students an opportunity to explore professional teaching careers while continuing their higher education through a flexible online work model.

While careers in music have traditionally been shaped by performances and freelancing, the rise of digital learning platforms and technology-enabled education is opening up new and structured employment opportunities for trained musicians. The initiative underscores a broader shift in the creative economy, where career opportunities in music are expanding beyond the performance stage to include teaching, music production, composition, recording, content creation and creative entrepreneurship, in an industry that increasingly values artistic excellence alongside communication skills, digital fluency and adaptability to emerging technologies.

Talking about the initiative, Dr. Vikas Bharadwaj, Dean, NMIMS School of Performing Arts, said, “For a long time, careers in music were largely associated with performances and freelancing. Today, the industry is witnessing the emergence of organised career pathways driven by digital platforms and technology-enabled learning. As an institution, we believe it is important to prepare students not only as artists but also as professionals who can thrive in this evolving ecosystem. This initiative is a step towards creating meaningful and sustainable career opportunities for our students.”

At NMIMS School of Performing Artsindustry engagement forms an integral part of the student learning experience. Alongside placement initiatives, the School continues to strengthen its industry connect through internships and collaborations with organisations including Spardha School of Music and Gyansthan Education Services LLP. These initiatives reinforce SoPA’s commitment to providing 100% placement assistance and equipping students with the skills, exposure and opportunities needed to build sustainable careers in music.
