Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led the day’s voting as one of the early voters, arriving at a polling station in the Bakhtiyarpur constituency. Accompanied by a close entourage, he exercised his democratic right, setting the tone for the day’s electoral proceedings.

Voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections commenced on a moderate note at 7 a.m. November 6, 2025, covering 121 constituencies across 18 districts. Meanwhile, stringent security arrangements were in place at all polling stations to ensure a smooth and orderly process, reflecting the administration’s focus on maintaining law and order during the electoral exercise.

Afterwards, Nitish Kumar even showed his inked finger to the media, signaling the completion of his voting.

Earlier, he urged all voters to participate actively in the state elections. He emphasized that voting is a key part of the democratic process.

Taking to X, he wrote, “In a democracy, voting is not only our right but also our responsibility. Today, the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections is taking place. All voters should exercise their right and inspire others. First vote, then refreshment.”

Meanwhile, over 37.5 million voters across 121 constituencies will decide the outcome of 1,314 candidates. This includes 19,835,325 men, 17,677,219 women, and 758 third-gender voters, according to the Election Commission.

In addition, 1,192 men and 122 women are contesting this first phase. The political stakes remain high, as several leaders from the NDA and Grand Alliance face tough battles.

Furthermore, 121 candidates from the NDA and 126 from the Grand Alliance are competing in this phase. The voter turnout during the first two hours reached 13.13 per cent, reflecting early enthusiasm.

The first-phase polling covers districts including Madhepura, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Patna, and Bhojpur. Therefore, authorities deployed tight security to ensure orderly voting.
