Chief Minister Attends Gwala Diwas 2026; Honours Dairy Farmers and Launches Cooperative Initiatives

New Delhi, July 02: The Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, attended the Gwala Diwas 2026 celebrations at Town Hall, Namchi, yesterday. The programme was organised to honour the invaluable contribution of dairy farmers and celebrate the spirit of cooperation that continues to strengthen Sikkim’s dairy sector.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister lauded the dedication and perseverance of the State’s dairy farmerscooperative societies and stakeholders, stating that their collective efforts have played a pivotal role in strengthening the rural economy and advancing the cooperative movement in Sikkim.

During the programme, outstanding achievers from the Gwala community were felicitated. Awards were presented to the best-performing Village Milk Producers’ Cooperative Societies (MPCS), with Pabyuik MPCS, Gangtok securing the first position, Upper Shankhu MPCS, Gyalshing the second position, and Upper Sribadam MPCS, Soreng the third position. District-wise achievers in milk production were also honoured.

The Chief Minister also felicitated Master Aditya Pandey, a meritorious student from the Gwala community, in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Gwala Ratna Award 2025–26 to Shri Arun Rai of Pabyuik MPCS for his exceptional dedication and remarkable contribution to the growth of the dairy sector.

The occasion also witnessed the launch of new dairy products and several cooperative initiatives aimed at empowering farmers, promoting self-reliance and strengthening rural livelihoods across the State.

Congratulating all the awardees, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the dairy sector would continue to flourish through the unwavering commitment of dairy farmers and cooperative members. He reiterated the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the cooperative movement and extending all possible support towards the sustainable growth of Sikkim’s dairy sector.
