
New Delhi, June 26: Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, inaugurated the eight-day Special Handloom Expo “Soot Sangam” at Handloom Haat, Janpath, New Delhi. The exhibition, being held from June 24 to July 1, 2026, brings together weavers, self-help groups, and cooperative societies from across the country to showcase India’s rich handloom traditions and handcrafted products.
Organized by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, with the support of the National Design Centre and India Handloom Brand, the expo aims to promote India’s handloom heritage, create wider market opportunities for weavers, and connect consumers with authentic handloom products.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. M. Beena highlighted the significance of the initiative in preserving and promoting India’s diverse textile traditions. She noted that Soot Sangam serves as a vibrant platform that brings together the country’s rich handloom heritage, skilled craftsmanship, and cultural diversity under one roof while enabling direct interaction between weavers and consumers.
She further emphasized that such exhibitions play a crucial role in strengthening market linkages for artisans and weavers. The Government remains committed to supporting the handloom sector by enhancing market access, preserving traditional crafts, and creating greater visibility for indigenous textile traditions.
More than 70 participants from across India are taking part in the exhibition, offering visitors an opportunity to explore and purchase a wide range of authentic handloom products. The collection includes silk and cotton sarees, suit-dupatta sets, shawls, stoles, bed linens, home furnishings, kurtas, dhotis, durries, and other handcrafted textile products.
The expo features products from numerous states, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, reflecting the remarkable diversity of India’s handloom traditions.
Beyond being a marketplace, Soot Sangam celebrates the colours, creativity, and cultural richness of India’s handloom sector. The event seeks to strengthen the spirit of “My Handloom, My Pride” by fostering direct engagement between artisans and consumers while encouraging the promotion of locally crafted products.
The exhibition is open to the public daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and will continue until July 1, 2026, at Handloom Haat, Janpath, New Delhi.
