Rourkela, June 22 : Achieving a major global recognition, 67 faculty members of National Institute of Technology Rourkela have been featured in the prestigious SciRank Global World’s Top percentage Scientists List.

Published annually by the Global Institute of Scientometrics, this Top 5 ercentage Scientists List recognises researchers from around the globe who have created outstanding scientific impact with their work. The latest edition of this list has covered more than 10 million active researcher profiles and assessed 50 million (approx.) scholarly publications worldwide.
Congratulating NIT Rourkela community on this achievement, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director, NIT Rourkela, said,
“This recognition is a matter of immense pride for the entire NIT Rourkela community. Having 67 of our faculty members featured among the world’s top scientists is a testament to their unwavering commitment to research excellence, innovation, and the pursuit of knowledge. It reflects the strength of our research ecosystem, the interdisciplinary collaborations fostered at the institute, and our collective efforts to address real-world challenges through science and technology. I congratulate all the faculty members on this remarkable achievement and am confident that their contributions will continue to advance knowledge and create meaningful societal impact in the years to come.”
A unique factor of this evaluation is that it is not based on surveys or editorial panels. Rather, researchers are verified through field-normalised bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex, the world’s largest open research database. This makes the evaluation transparent and away from any institutional biases.
From NIT Rourkela, researchers from the Department of Chemistry accounted for the highest number of entries in the list. This is followed by researchers from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Life Science, and Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. This feature list highlights the Institute’s robust research capabilities across both core and emerging disciplines.
