New Delhi, December 23, 2025: NIIT Foundation, a Delhi-based not-for-profit organisation, has launched Cyber Suraksha Plus, an advanced phase of its nationwide cybersecurity skilling and awareness programme. As part of the initiative, five-time World Chess Champion and Padma Vibhushan awardee Viswanathan Anand has been appointed Ambassador for Cybersecurity Awareness.
The collaboration aims to strengthen public understanding of cybersecurity and promote responsible digital behaviour through storytelling, mentorship and public campaigns. Drawing parallels between strategic thinking in chess and cyber vigilance in daily digital life, the initiative seeks to make cybersecurity awareness more accessible and engaging, particularly for youth and vulnerable communities.
Announcing the association, Sapna Moudgil, CEO of NIIT Foundation, said cybersecurity today extends beyond technical expertise.
“Cybersecurity is not just a technical skill but a civic responsibility. Through Grandmaster Anand’s association, NIIT Foundation hopes to bring this message closer to every household, encouraging people to think ahead, anticipate risks and safeguard their digital presence with the same strategy and discipline that defines his game,” she said.
Speaking on his new role, Viswanathan Anand said the principles of chess are deeply relevant in the digital era.
“Chess teaches us that foresight, preparation and vigilance are key to avoiding traps, and the same applies to the digital world. I’m delighted to join NIIT Foundation in empowering people with the knowledge and confidence to stay secure online. Together, we can help India think strategically and act safely in its digital journey,” he said.
The Cyber Suraksha Plus initiative builds on the success of the original Cyber Suraksha programme, which has trained over 10 lakh learners across India. The new phase aims to reach an additional 27 lakh learners by 2028, expanding the focus from basic awareness to specialised career pathways in areas such as AI-driven security, system protection and ransomware defence.
With Anand as its ambassador, NIIT Foundation aims to make cybersecurity education more relatable and impactful, encouraging citizens to develop not only digital skills but also digital wisdom—thinking several moves ahead in an increasingly interconnected digital world.
