Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, May 21 : Reinforcing its commitment to innovation-led education and research excellence, VIT Bhopal University has added another milestone to its growing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) portfolio with the successful Design Registration of an innovative inclusive sanitation system titled “Hybrid Toilet for Kids Youngsters and Elders” designed by researchers from the university.

Supported by the University’s IPR Cell, the registered innovation presents an adaptive sanitary solution that integrates multiple usability features, including modular flaps and a step mechanism to comfortably accommodate children, adults, and elderly users. The design also offers ergonomic support for individuals with mobility limitations and anorectal disorders, reflecting the university’s focus on inclusive and human-centered engineering approach aimed at addressing practical everyday needs through thoughtful design innovation.

The registered design has been designed by a team led by Dr. Pushpdant Jain, and his students Pardeep Kumar, and Nikhil Kumar, from the School of Mechanical Engineering at VIT Bhopal University.

“This Design Registration recognises the novelty and inclusivity of our approach towards user-centric sanitation design, particularly for individuals across different age groups and mobility needs. Unlike a utility patent, a design registration specifically protects the unique visual and functional configuration of the system, which was central to our innovation. At VIT Bhopal University, we remain committed to developing practical engineering solutions that combine accessibility, functionality, and social relevance,” said Dr. Pushpdant Jain, Senior Assistant Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, VIT Bhopal University.

In addition to this achievement, several patent and design applications across diverse research domains are currently progressing through different stages of examination. These developments underline the university’s growing emphasis on applied research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation-driven problem solving.

The achievement further reflects the creativity, dedication, and forward-looking research culture fostered at VIT Bhopal University, where students and faculty members continue to work together to develop solutions with meaningful social impact.
