Art Vanguards of Rajasthan – Rasa Panchaka

Apr 25: Art Vanguards of Rajasthan – Rasa Panchaka, curated by Nikhat Ansari, was held from 24th to 30th April 2026 at the Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The exhibition opened on 24th April at 5:00 PM and remained on view daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The exhibition brought together five artists—Shail Choyal, Ankit Patel, Purna Chandra Kishan, Dharmendra Rathore, and Chandra Shekhar Sain—whose works reflected different perspectives rooted in tradition, memory, and lived experience. The idea of “Rasa Panchaka” drew from five distinct artistic expressions, each exploring a unique emotional and cultural essence.

Shail Choyal reinterpreted the structure and detailing of Rajasthani miniature painting in a contemporary format. Ankit Patel’s sculptures were shaped by memories of rural life, capturing everyday moments and personal journeys.

Purna Chandra Kishan’s paintings explored the relationship between Nari and Prakriti, often presenting them as interconnected forms, while also reflecting on environmental concerns through calm, layered landscapes. Dharmendra Rathore’s work drew from mythology and philosophical traditions, including Buddhist thought, to create narratives that connected past and present.

Chandra Shekhar Sain worked across terracotta and painting, combining elements of Rajasthani folk traditions with contemporary themes, focusing on rural life, culture, and human emotion.

Together, the exhibition presented a mix of practices that engaged with tradition while responding to contemporary ideas.

Curator Nikhat Ansari said, “Five voices, five rasas—where memory, myth, and मिट्टी meet—Rajasthan reimagines itself, not as it was, but as it feels.”

The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Guest of Honor Arpana Caur, Eminent Artist and Co-founder of Academy of Literature and Fine Arts, New Delhi.
