Mumbai, Apr 07: The SVKM’s NMIMS, through the Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts’ Department of Psychology, successfully conducted the “Life in Colours” Psych Camp at Tapas Elder Care Centre, Nerul, strengthening its commitment to community mental health and outreach.
The initiative engaged 20–30 elderly participants through guided discussions and art-based therapeutic activities aimed at fostering emotional expression, cognitive engagement, and psychological well-being. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their life experiences, share personal narratives, and explore creative forms of self-expression in a supportive environment.
Designed to promote emotional clarity and reduce stress, the camp introduced simple coping strategies while nurturing a sense of belonging and validation among participants. The initiative also ensured inclusive communication by onboarding Marathi- and Hindi-speaking volunteers to support facilitation and participant comfort.
Emphasising the importance of such initiatives, Prof. (Dr.) Rupakjyoti Borah, Dean, Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts said, “At the Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts, we believe mental health awareness must meaningfully reach communities across age groups. ‘Life in Colours’ reflects our commitment to using creative and empathetic approaches to enhance emotional well-being among the elderly, while also enabling our students to engage with real-world psychological practice.”
This outreach builds on NMIMS’ extensive experience in conducting large-scale psych camps, including its Shirpur initiative that reached over 4,000 participants and received widespread media recognition.
Through “Life in Colours,” NMIMS continues to strengthen its efforts toward mental health awareness, particularly among elderly communities, while fostering experiential learning for students.
