New Delhi, Apr 04: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday expressed his vision for transforming Sikkim’s education system while addressing the State–Level Education Conference on “Developing Human Capital for Viksit Sikkim” held at Chintan Bhawan.
Speaking at the conference, the Chief Minister emphasised that education remains the foundation of progress, shaping professions and determining the future trajectory of the state. He highlighted that the government’s goal goes beyond administrative reviews and focuses on transforming lives through quality education.
“Our success must not be measured by processes completed, but by the lives we transform,” he stated.
Focus on Free and Inclusive Education
Reaffirming the state’s commitment, Tamang called for strengthening Sikkim’s free education policy, ensuring it becomes one of the best globally—accessible, inclusive, and uncompromising in quality.
He stressed that every child, regardless of background, should receive not just free but world-class education.
Strengthening Government Schools
The Chief Minister underlined the need to make government schools the first choice for families, driven by:
• Quality education
• Innovation
• Public trust
He advocated a shift from degree-focused learning to skill-based, future-ready education, encouraging innovation, entrepreneurship, and confidence among students.
Vision for the Future
Highlighting the importance of systemic reform, Tamang emphasised:
• Continuous teacher development
• Strong institutional frameworks
• Integration of emerging technologies
He noted that these steps are essential to build an education system that is both equitable and globally competitive.
Call for Collective Commitment
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister urged all stakeholders to work together toward a shared goal:
Creating an education system where government schools inspire confidence, opportunity is universal, and Sikkim emerges as a benchmark for excellence.
