Type-6 Gains Momentum as Ultraviolette and Bolt.Earth Expand Interoperable Fast Charging for EVs Across India

Bengaluru, Mar 17th: Ultraviolette today announced a strategic collaboration with Bolt.Earth to accelerate the rollout of a nationwide interoperable Type6 DC Charging network, reinforcing its commitment to building a future-ready EV ecosystem for India. Building on the successful launch of the X-47 and Ultraviolette’s rapid retail expansion, this collaboration marks the next step in scaling dependable, standardized charging infrastructure for high-performance electric mobility.

Type6 is India’s recognized national standard for light electric vehicle DC charging and is purpose-built for the requirements of 2W and 3W EVs. Formally published by the Bureau of Indian Standards as IS 17017 (Part 2/Section 6), the standard establishes a common, interoperable charging architecture for light EVs. It has also been internationally standardized as IEC 62196-6 and adopted in other markets, underscoring its relevance as a scalable format for the next generation of electric mobility. Designed specifically for light EV applications, Type6 supports a wide spectrum of vehicles, including e-bikes, mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, delivery vehicles, tricycles, e-freight vehicles, e-rickshaws, and electric all-terrain vehicles.

With this collaboration, Ultraviolette further strengthens the transition toward interoperable fastcharging infrastructure by expanding access to public Type6 charging across the country. Importantly, Ultraviolette vehicles are already built on the Type6 standard, reaffirming that the charging interface is based on a recognized national standard rather than a proprietary connector. As the ecosystem matures and adoption gathers pace, Type6 is emerging as the most credible pathway to interoperable, scalable DC charging for India’s 2W and 3W EV segment.

As part of the initial rollout, several Bolt.Earth chargers have already been installed across key locations identified by Ultraviolette, with public charging services now live across Kerala, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. The network will expand immediately to fifty upgraded stations over the next two months. With Type6 chargers already deployed across IndiaBolt.Earth operates as one of India’s largest EV charging networks, built to support interoperability at scale. All newly installed Bolt.Earth DC chargers will be fully compatible with the entire Ultraviolette lineup. This ensures that existing and future Ultraviolette products can seamlessly access the growing Type6 ecosystem without requiring hardware modifications.

Speaking on the development, Niraj Rajmohan, Co-founder & CTO, Ultraviolette, said, “Ultraviolette’s vision is to push the boundaries of electric mobility not only through product innovation, but by helping shape the ecosystem that will power the future of mobility. Our collaboration with Bolt.Earth is an important step in advancing Type6 Fast Charging infrastructure in India – an interoperable, scalable standard built specifically for the needs of 2W and 3W EVsUltraviolette vehicles already adopt the Type6 interface, and this collaboration expands real-world charging access on a nationally recognized standard. As public charging infrastructure evolves, interoperability will be critical to accelerating EV adoption, improving rider confidence, and enabling the next stage of growth for electric mobility in India.”

The charging technology deployed under this partnership is based on 3kW DC Charging engineered to deliver both efficiency and safety.  The X-47 and F77 motorcycles can be charged from 0 – 80% in approximately 2.5 hours, and from 0 – 100% in around 3.5 hours. The chargers feature a comprehensive multi-layered protection system, including Short Circuit Protection, Input Over/Under Voltage Protection, Earth Detection, Reverse Polarity Protection, Output Short Circuit Protection, and an Emergency Push Button offering industrial-grade reliability and operational safety for riders across diverse environments.

In the coming months, Bolt.Earth will expand charging options for LEVDC-Type 6 compatible two- and three-wheelers with the launch of 6kW and 12kW Blaze DC, ensuring reliable fastcharging access for riders across both urban and high-density routes.

S. Raghav Bharadwaj, CEO & Co-FounderBolt. Earth, said, “Easy access to fast charging is the foundation of a truly scalable EV ecosystem in India, especially during the transitional period. It must feel as natural as refueling, always within reach. With Blaze DC, we’ve integrated the Type 6 connector to create India’s first universal fast charger for two- and three-wheelers, built to work seamlessly with what exists today and what’s coming tomorrow. This isn’t about creating new standards but ensuring that the right one is adopted at scale. In the months ahead, Blaze DC will be deployed across major metros, and in years to come, it will form the backbone of everyday charging nationwide.”

With an aggressive national expansion roadmap already in motion, Bolt.Earth aims to deploy 2,000 chargers over a 24-month horizon to create one of India’s largest public fastcharging networks tailored for advanced two-wheeler mobility. For Ultraviolette customers, this translates into significantly enhanced charging accessibility, reduced wait times, and reliable connectivity during long-distance travel.
