Mar 6: ASG Eye Hospital, a super-specialty eye care chain backed by General Atlantic, Kedaara Capital and Sky Impact Capital announced the launch of Ocular Oncology Services.

The announcement was marked by an academic conclave held at Novotel Mumbai International Airport, signalling ASG’s entry into a niche subspecialty currently only offered by government led institutions marking the formal launch of its Ocular Oncology services in Mumbai and Jodhpur.

The highlight of the launch was an international masterclass on retinoblastoma management conducted by Professor. Dr. Sagoo, a globally recognised consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital (UK), specialising in adult and paediatric eye tumours like retinoblastoma and ocular melanoma. He shared globally benchmarked treatment protocols and multidisciplinary strategies, reinforcing ASG’s commitment to research-driven subspecialty care.

Another distinguished panelist was Dr. Neiwete Lomi, Associate Professor at AIIMS, (New Delhi), an ocular oncology specialist known for his work in retinoblastoma who shed light on the Indian clinical perspective, highlighting the unique challenges and treatment approaches in managing ocular tumours in the country.

The session was conducted under the guidance of ASG’s academic and research leadership, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to subspecialty excellence, research-driven care, and standardised quality systems.

Data shows that India carries one of the highest burdens of retinoblastoma, a common childhood eye cancer, contributing a significant share of the global burden and reporting roughly 1,500 new cases annually.

While dedicated care has historically been the domain of a handful of long-established institutions like ASG’s multi-city network aims to decentralise access, enabling earlier detection and reducing travel for families. The expansion will continue in a phased manner across Kolkata, Varanasi, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Patna and Guwahati, creating a comprehensive, multi-city ocular oncology network. The programme will be supported by a clinical advisory framework with experts associated with AIIMS New Delhi and internationally renowned specialists from Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Patients will benefit from globally benchmarked protocols, structured case review, and coordinated care pathways for complex ocular tumours, including multidisciplinary evaluation when required.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Arun Singhvi, MD & Group CEO reiterated ASG’s vision of delivering international standards of eye care across India through phased expansion and strong academic foundations.

Dr. Ganesh, the Chief research and Academics officer, ASG Eye Hospital said,

“Our goal is simple: patients should not have to travel across the country for critical eye cancer care. With retinoblastoma cases increasing every year, we believe it is the right time to build a structured ocular oncology programme across multiple centres across India. We will bring specialised expertise closer to communities to enable timely, protocol-led treatment for patients who need it the most.”

The event concluded with the launch of key academic initiatives such as senior fellowships, optometrist training and sensitization programme and a networking dinner, underscoring ASG’s continued focus on clinical innovation and national growth.
